Small Grants Project Chongqing 3D SDI in China - Update Report

The Chongqing Survey Institute received a cash award from the GSDI Small Grants Program in July for a project titled "Improving the Communication Channels of the Chongqing 3D SDI in China". The project progress report from October 2017 has been received and the final project report is to follow in April 2018. Indonesian Spatial Data Training Project to Support Local Forest Communities

The GSDI Small Grants Program provided co-funding to ELSAKA (Lembaga Studi dan Advokasi Kebijakan - Center for Study and Policy Advocacy) for SDI training to help forest communities in 25 districts in North Sumatra apply for management permission relating to their areas.

SDI to Support Sustainable Energy Planning in West Africa

The GSDI Small Grants Program part-funded a project to map the operational CEMGs projects in ECOWAS region and publish them on the ECOWREX SDI platform, thus contributing to offer open spatial data on operational CEMG (ECOWAS Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE)) that prove to be of high interest for project developers on rural electrification in West Africa.

In November 2017, the Mongolian Geospatial Association published a full translation into Mongolian of the 2012 edition of the GSDI's SDI Cookbook, funded by the GSDI Small Grants Program.

GSDI Small Grant Program awards announced

The GSDI Association’s call for proposals for the Small Grants Program 2017 stimulated 31 proposals from 27 countries in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, North and South America, covering a wide range of SDI and GI/GIS related project work. Each of the award winners will receive cash support for their proposed projects of US$ 2,500.

Call for Proposals for Small Grants in 2017 Closes

The application period for the 2017 Call for Proposals closed on 8 June, with over 30 propsals submitted from 25 countries. Review of the proposals has started with announcement of the first four to be funded from the current budget, to be announced on 30 June.

As there are many more than four proposals deserving funding this year, the Association is seeking additional sponsors for Small Grants. GSDI Small Grants Program 2017 - Call for Proposals Submission date extended to 8 June!

The GSDI Association has been making Small Grants Program awards since 2003 – our longest running project. The cash grants are for US$ 2,500. Although this is not a large amount of money, in emerging nations and developing economy SDI’s, it can go a long way toward SDI preparedness, awareness raising, for building some component of an SDI or to add to SDI sustainability. It may also help to engage other organizations in collaboration and additional co-funding for large projects. Since 2003, more than 100 grants have been made by the Association. Applications for the 2017 program are due not later than 8 June 2017.
